Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope this finds you happy, healthy, and well!
This weekend we are celebrating the patronal feast of our parish, Our Lady of Mercy. We celebrate our Blessed Mother, the Mother of God, as a wonderful mediator of God’s super-abundant mercy. Time and again, she has shown herself to be a merciful mother to us all. At the foot of the cross she was given to Jesus’ beloved disciple as his mother and as our mother as well. How can we not celebrate God’s mercy on this day and not also recognize the singular role Mama Mary has played in human history?
We also do well to ask her intercession to help us to be faithful to the name of our parish by practicing all the corporal and spiritual works of mercy. We can start practicing them here and now with the person next to us, with our brothers and sisters in our parish community, and then extend that mercy out to others.
May we all be the people God wants us to be: loving people, merciful people and people who serve God using all the talents and treasure we have been given for the good of this community of faith!
Let us offer Mary our love and devotion, gratefully acknowledging all she has done and all that she continues to do on our behalf.
Happy Feast Day, people of Our Lady of Mercy!
