Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope you are doing well!
In today’s gospel Jesus brings a child into the midst of his disciples and he tells them, “Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me.” (Mark 9:37). I would ask you to consider what this means in terms of our responsibility as a church community to educate our young people.
I believe our mission is clear. We have the duty to educate our children in the faith and to pass on the great religious traditions that are so much a part of our Catholic culture. If we are not doing that, then we are not receiving Christ into our midst as we should. I would encourage all parents (who are the first teachers of their children), as well as guardians, educators, and lay leaders, to ponder that thought sometime today,
This coming weekend, September 25 & 26, we will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, the patron of our parish. May the celebration of our parish feast be a day of joy for us all. If you can, I encourage you to join us for the 5 pm Mass, next Saturday, September 25. That will be the main Mass of our feast day. It will be followed by a reception in the Maria Room.
Have a blessed week!
