October 23, 2022 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

I hope all is well.

First of all, in the name of the staff and community of Our Lady of Mercy, I welcome back Bishop Greg Studerus. Bishop Greg is once again with us. Today, he will administer the Sacrament of Confirmation to our younger brothers and sisters during a special Mass at 3 pm. The bishop is no stranger to many of us. We are always happy to have him bless us with his presence. Let us continue to keep Bishop Greg in our hearts and prayers as he serves as our shepherd here in Hudson County.

We also pray for our young people who are being confirmed. May the Holy Spirit empower them to know, love and serve God with all their heart, mind, soul, and body. May they also find their place in God’s vineyard, that is, the Church. May they discover their God-given talents and gifts and use them for the greater glory of God. May they be good sons and daughters to their parents and to all of us, who are their brothers and sisters in Christ.

I thank the Director of our Faith Formation Program and Pastoral Associate, Regina “Jeng” Villa, for the tireless and selfless effort, dedication, and love that she shows as she helps our children grow in their spiritual lives. She gives her whole self to this hard work of shaping our children into the people God wants them to be.

I thank Father Jack, the catechists, parents, and sponsors who made themselves available and were willing to give their best to impart the knowledge of God to the confirmation candidates and to share their gifts of wisdom and the skills they possess.

The past weeks, some of our young people gave their time to do a work of charity. So, I thank this youth group who prepared packages of hygiene care and other items for Our Lady of Sorrows parish community here in Jersey City.
This is one of the many ways we can teach our children to think of others, to perform acts of kindness, and to reach out to those in need. Our prayers go out to our children. May the good they do flow from who they are and not just because they were part of a service project. Thanks to the generous donors as well!

Our thanks go out to the OLM Ambassadors for another job well done during Café OLM last Sunday. Their hard work and enthusiastic dedication will be blessed by God. Those who went to the Maria Room for Café OLM had a great time enjoying food, fellowship, and in getting to know their fellow parish members.

Last but not the least, please continue to pray for our parish. Thank you.

Father Marty

We continue to look for additional young people to join our altar server ministry here in the parish. We appreciate parents and other adults who encourage the young people in their lives to volunteer to fill this role at Mass.

Sign-up sheets are available in the vestibule of the church. You can submit the completed forms to the Parish Office or give them to Father Marty or Father Andrew. You can also sign up by using the QR Code found here.

If you have any questions, please speak to one of the priests. We will soon be posting a schedule for the training sessions for those who volunteer to become Altar Servers.

All Moms and Dads to be, our Baptismal Team would also like to celebrate your joy with a “Gathering To Rejoice!” Every month we have an event just for that.
