October 2, 2022 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

In our gospel today, the disciples of Jesus come to him and ask him to increase their faith. We may wonder what they meant. Did they want Jesus to pour some extra grace into their hearts?

Brothers and sisters, we have all been given access to the fullness of God’s grace first through the pouring out of the Holy Spirit at our Baptism, then additionally through our reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.

If we need greater faith, we already have access to that gift. We just need to allow God’s Spirit to work more fully through us. If you want to grow in faith, use the gift of faith you have already received. Maybe we won’t be moving mountains or uprooting trees, but we will be doing God’s work, and that is the whole point, just doing the work we are obliged to do.

I would like to congratulate the families of our newly baptized children: Chaeyeon Dara Balagtas Rivera, Atticus Daze Fox, and Deen Grey Jornales Rivera. I ask you not only to pray for these newly baptized children, but also to pray for their parents and godparents that they may fulfill their responsibility to bring them up as good and faithful Christians.

I also ask you to pray for our young people who are getting ready to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday, October 23. They have been preparing for one year now for the reception of this Sacrament together with their parents and sponsors.

May God’s Holy Spirit touch them and empower them to truly know who God is and to be aware of their responsibility to be Christ’s ambassadors to their fellow brothers and sisters.

Also pray for them that they will nurture the faith planted in them on the day of their Baptism and sealed and affirmed at Confirmation. God knows how much our young people these days need help to understand and be convinced that God is the source of our whole being and everything that we have.

Thank you all and may you have a blessed day today and in the days ahead.

Love,

Father Marty

AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE THE LORD

We continue to look for additional young people to join our altar server ministry here in the parish. We appreciate parents and other adults who encourage the young people in their lives to volunteer to fill this role at Mass.

Sign-up sheets are available in the vestibule of the church. You can submit the completed forms to the Parish Office or give them to Father Marty or Father Andrew. You can also sign up by using the QR Code found here.

If you have any questions, please speak to one of the priests. We will soon be posting a schedule for the training sessions for those who volunteer to become Altar Servers.
