May 29, 2022 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

In Jesus’ priestly prayer for his disciples, he prays not only for those who followed him during his life and ministry in this world, but he also prays for us. We are the ones that he mentions as “those who will believe in me through their word.” We are the ones who have received the good news of Jesus that has been passed down to us from the Apostles.

Generation after generation, Jesus’ disciples have faithfully followed his instructions by going forth and preaching the good news, teaching, and baptizing the next generation of Christians. Jesus says of us that we are the Father’s gift to him. In his desire that we might be one community of love, he has placed us in the care of the Holy Spirit. The presence of the Spirit is our assurance that one day we will all be one with him in the kingdom of heaven.

I was thinking that if we are the Father’s gift to Jesus, then we ought to think of our brothers and sisters as God’s gift to us as well. Do we have that sense of treasuring one another as gifts from God?
Also, as we commemorate Memorial Day this Monday, we would do well to pray for our brothers and sisters in the military services who gave their lives to defend our nation.

Happy Memorial Day

Father Marty

The Wellness Ministry of our parish sponsored a Health Fair on Sunday, May 15, in the Maria Room after our morning Masses. It helped all who attended to take a step toward better health and well-being.

The members of the Wellness Ministry would like to thank several people who volunteered their time and donations to make this year’s Health Fair successful. Additionally, we would like to thank the 80 parishioners for their attendance. We hope that they received valuable information to better their health now and in the future.

The Jersey City Medical Center provided cholesterol, glucose (finger stick), and blood pressure screenings while Life In Motion provided body mass index and blood pressure screenings as well. Giveaways from each vendor were available for the attendees.

Thank you to our vendors: Detoxifying Your Kitchen and Simple Plant-Based Care, Division of Aging Services of Hudson County, Family Dentist, Fraga Wellness Solutions, Jersey City Department of Health, Jersey City Medical Center, Life In Motion, and Salad Master. Thanks to Jojo Paloma for the setting up the Maria Room, and to Racelis Realty Inc for providing the food for the vendors and volunteers.
