Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,
I hope this finds you well and safe.
First, let me begin by wishing all our fathers a very Happy Father’s Day! To be a father is a wonderful calling from God, but it is not the easiest vocation for those who are really trying to be a good father. Whether you are called to be a natural father or a spiritual father, it is not easy to know how to do that according to God’s will. So, we need to pray to discern the best way to “father” our children and to help them to mature as persons of faith, hope, and charity.
But fathers, as our gospel tells us this weekend, have faith! Do not be terrified. God is with you all the time. Be a Christ-like kind of father to your children. You can do it with God’s help.
On another note, there are a few things I would like to let you know. First of all, I am encouraging you to send in your payments to the Annual Appeal. As we have mentioned at Mass, if the amount of money sent in by the end of June equals the amount of our parish goal of $42,123, then our parish will receive a 2% reduction in next year’s parish assessment.
Secondly, starting tomorrow, Monday, June 21, the renovation of our sanctuary (altar area) will begin. Please excuse the appearance of our sanctuary for at least three to four weeks as the work is being done.
In the next few months, we will be repainting the interior of our church. Because of that, we will need volunteers. Stay tuned for more announcements concerning this project.
There are other pending projects to be done. There is the re-sealing of our parking lot and the re-configuration of the chapel to name a few. Considering the works I mentioned, I ask you to please continue to support your church in prayer and financially. Kindly look at the amount of our weekly collection. The amount we are receiving is not enough to keep us operating comfortably. I badly need your help. I know and trust that you will respond. Thank you so much!
I want to give you notice that the Department of Health and Human Services of Jersey City will be offering free COVID-19 vaccinations on Tuesday, June 29, from 10 am until 6 pm in a van to be located in our church parking lot. I encourage those not yet vaccinated to avail themselves of this opportunity. Please spread the word to others. And, in the name of Our Lady of Mercy parish, I thank this Department of Jersey City for their services. We will announce this again next weekend to remind you of the vaccination opportunity.
God bless you all.
