June 12, 2022 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

Greetings in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit!

This weekend, we celebrate one of the great mysteries of our faith: the mystery of the Holy Trinity, that is, the mystery of how God has revealed Himself to us as One God in three distinct Persons.

The question of how it is possible for God to be One yet also Three, remains in our minds. We are asked to suspend our need for further rational explanation, and simply to submit in faith. We do not need to grasp the inner nature of God in order to love and to worship Him as a Trinity of Persons. We do not need to impose our human concepts of what it means to be “begotten” or to be the “Father” or to “proceed from” in order to love the God whom Jesus has revealed to us.

God simply is and was and will continue to be God. And whether we can understand Him in His nature, whether we invoke Him in the Person of Jesus, or the Spirit, or as Creator, God is and was and will be the same, yesterday, today and tomorrow.

On a different note, we have recently been blessed with great weather. That was true last Saturday when we gathered outside, under the bridge, after the 5 pm Mass for Café OLM. A large number of our brothers and sisters came to enjoy each other’s company and to share food and drink. (See the pictures in this bulletin.) I thank the OLM Ambassadors and those who helped to prepare and set up the venue and also to cook and provide the tasty dishes and drinks.

We will have another Café OLM on July 10 after our 8 am Sunday Mass. Café OLM will host “Breakfast Under the Bridge!” in the area under the bridge by the entrance to the Maria Room. Please plan to join us.

As summertime and summer break come closer, I ask you to be extra careful wherever you travel to spend your well-deserved vacation. As you enjoy your long-awaited getaway, especially after the lockdown, do not neglect the needs of your soul.

On this Sunday, June 12, I would like to give a shout-out to my fellow Filipino brothers and sisters in our community—Happy Independence Day!

Finally, I want to thank Chit De La Rama for her help in upgrading the chairs used by our altar servers.
May God bless each of us and our parish family.

Father Marty

Café OLM held its first outdoor event this past Saturday, June 4, following our 5 pm Mass, in the area under bridge by the entrance to the Maria Room.

Our “Parish Ambassadors,” the group responsible for running Café OLM, did a fine job in preparing the event and providing us all with delicious food and drink. And God provided the beautiful weather!

The pictures on the right are from last Saturday’s event.

Café OLM opens periodically after a different Mass to give members of OLM a chance meet and greet their fellow parishioners as they enjoy some good food.
