July 11, 2021 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

Fr. Marty JacintoI hope this finds you well and safe.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus called his disciples to himself and then he sent them out to do the work he wanted them to do. He gave them the “tools” they needed, and he entrusted them with the good news of salvation. He empowered them with the grace of the Holy Spirit. He sent them out on mission with only the clothes on their backs, with empty pockets, and with the bare necessities of life. They went out with joy and enthusiasm to preach repentance and to call people back to God.

Brothers and sisters, each time we come to Mass, Jesus sends us out into the world, just like he sent his disciples. He equips us with every grace and blessing that we need, without a whole lot of extra baggage, and he tells us to take what we have received at Mass and to share it with the people outside.

We are to do that aware that we all have a purpose in life. It is a purpose that we celebrate each time we come to Mass. Our purpose is to give God praise and glory by the way we live. That purpose is so basic, but it is so easy to forget with all the distractions we encounter each day, but if our lives are going to have any meaning now and in the long run, that is what we need to remember. It is all about giving God the glory.

Last week, the Archdiocese gave us updated directives regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. You may have noticed here in church that there are a few things that we have recently brought back. This is good news.

In the name of my staff, I thank you for your patience and cooperation these past months. All we do here in our parish is for your own good and protection. We have slowly removed the restrictions and have attempted to bring us back to normal while keeping everyone safe. I applaud all of you because you completely cooperated with everything we tried to do for you.

Our church did not close because none of our staff members was infected by the virus. Again, we are all safe because you followed all the protocols and precautionary measures prescribed. You really are good and faithful followers of Christ and, if I may add, of His Holy Church. Please continue to do your part for the protection and safety of all the OLM family.

God bless you all.

Love,
Father Marty
