Giving Tree Report

Since many parishioners brought their Giving Tree gifts early this year, they were delivered on December 12, the earliest ever. Many ongoing deliveries continued, including on Christmas Eve.

All the stars were taken from our two Giving Trees – another first. There were more than 200 plus stars! The wonderful, incredible, and amazing generosity shown by the parishioners of OLM continued even during this year of the never-ending pandemic. All the charities we helped ask that I pass along the following message, “Thank you!” “Thank you!” “Thank you!”

I take the liberty to quote one of our donors. In a card included with that person’s gifts was the following message, “Four $25 gift cards to Dunkin’ Donuts to be given to four beautiful souls. Merry Christmas.” Your donations were delivered to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish; Saint Ann’s Daycare Center; Catholic Charities in Jersey City and Union City; Covenant House in Newark; Broadway House in Newark that deals with persons with HIV/AIDS; and Several Sources Shelters for unwed mothers.

A special thank you to Joanne Sheridan of the OLM Rosary Society for making the stars and labels and to the members of the Holy Name Society for their assistance. Thanks also to the OLM staff, Tina Lanting, Angel Juan, Jojo Paloma, and David Ingram. The OLM Giving tree tradition, which spans some 40 years, demonstrates the true spirit of charitable giving to those in need at Christmas. The donated gift cards, checks, cash, clothing, and toys will be an ongoing source of joy and help into this New Year of 2022. A sincere thank you is extended to all parishioners for their acts of charity, kindness, and love.

Sincerely,

Len Wodzanowski
