August 21, 2022 – From the Pastor

Dear Parishioners of Our Lady of Mercy,

Greetings in the name of Our Lord Jesus Christ!

I hope you are back refreshed after your time of relaxation and recreation. I know that some students are returning to school this week. Our prayer is that this new school year may be a great year for all our young brothers and sisters. May they grow in wisdom and enjoy being with their classmates and friends, far from any sickness or disease. May they be responsible and take care of themselves and one another by following school health protocols and safety measures.

I would like to announce that we are still in need of more altar servers. Please let Father Andrew or me know if you are aware of any young people who may want to serve the Lord through this ministry at the altar.

Please mark your calendar for the two feasts we celebrate here at Our Lady of Mercy in the month of September. The first one is our parish feast, the feast of Our Lady of Mercy, which will be Saturday, September 17. We will have our Feast Day Mass at 5 pm and it will be followed by a time of fellowship in the Maria Room.

The other feast day is that of San Lorenzo Ruiz that will be on Wednesday, September 28. We will post more information regarding these events in the next few weeks.

The Sacrament of Confirmation for our young people here in our parish will be on Sunday, October 23. They have been preparing for this Sacrament since last year. I am excited for them. I am planning to meet each one of them for a personal interview.

I ask you to include our candidates for Confirmation in your prayers. Pray that they may grow as fine young men and women and especially in their spiritual lives and be faithful soldiers of Christ. May the Holy Spirit, whom they will receive on the day of their Confirmation, motivate and empower them to do what is expected of them as children of God and members of Christ’s Church.

May you all be safe and may you have a blessed week.

Father Marty

We are currently looking for additional young people to become part of our altar server ministry here in the parish. We are grateful to those who are coming forward and volunteering to serve our Lord and our parish as Altar Servers. We appreciate parents and other adults who encourage the young people in their lives to volunteer to fill this role at Mass. Sign-up sheets are available in the vestibule of the church. You can submit the completed forms to the Parish Office or give them to Father Marty or Father Andrew. If you have any questions, please speak to one of the priests. We will soon be posting a schedule for the training sessions for those who volunteer to become Altar Servers.

As mentioned previously, we have returned to our former way of collecting your offerings a Mass. After the Creed and General Intercessions, those at Mass are invited to come forward with their financial donations and place them in the baskets at the head of each aisle. As we come forward, we can remember that the Lord not only wants us to offer our money but to also our lives in service to Him and his Church.

Those using WESHARE, our online giving service, are welcome to join the procession of those coming forward to the baskets. If they wish, they may place a collection envelope, note, or card in the basket indicating their use of online giving.

All Moms and Dads to be, our Baptismal Team would also like to celebrate your joy with a “Gathering To Rejoice!” Every month we have an event just for that. The team is ready to rejoice with you and to assist you as you look forward to your child’s baptism and beyond. Let us know that you are expecting by stopping by or calling the parish office at 201-434-7500.

Archbishop’s Annual Appeal

The Annual Appeal supports the many mission and ministries of the Archdiocese of Newark. The Appeal also funds services that benefit all the parishes of the Archdiocese including our own. This year’s goal for our parish is $42,120. There is a 100% rebate of every dollar collected above our goal. Currently, donors from OLM have pledged $51,031 and $46,221 has been received. Please continue to be generous as always!
